LEXINGTON (WACH) -- It’s a very special day for leap year babies.

For the first time in four years, they’re getting to officially celebrate a birthday.

Maddie Lynn Hanley is one of the newest leap year babies. She was born at Lexington Medical Center Wednesday morning.

Her parents, Corey and Bethany Hanley, say it makes her even more unique.

Bethany says Corey already has a plan to use his newborn daughter’s February 29 birthday to his advantage.

“He says because she’s a leap year baby, she can’t date until she’s a certain age,” said Bethany Hanley. “But that’s counted by leap years and not regular years.”

The Hanley’s plan to celebrate Maddie’s birthday either on February 28 or March 1, and give her big parties every four years.

Lexington Medical Center spokeswoman Jennifer Wilson says seven babies were born at the hospital Wednesday.
