LADSON (WACH/AP)—An 11-year-old fourth-grade student is accused of taking a pellet gun to school, and shooting two students in the leg. According to Charleston County authorities, the Ladson Elementary School student has been charged with 6 counts of third-degree assault and battery and possession of a weapon at school. Because of his age, his name has not been released.
Charleston County Sheriff’s Major Jim Brady said that the boy tried to shoot two other students and pointed the gun at another student. Brady says no students were seriously injured.
The shootings Monday were not reported until Tuesday, when the boy brought the gun to school again. Brady says investigators don't know why the boy shot at the students.
A school district spokesman says the boy is being recommended for expulsion.
