ORANGEBURG,SC (WACH) – South Carolina State University has a new initiative to help diversify the healthcare profession.

The Tour of Diversity in Medicine is designed for students who are interested in entering a career in medicine.

During the luncheon Wednesday, students will have a chance to sit down with African American medical professionals to discuss current health issues.

Students will also receive advice about how to overcome obstacles when entering the field.

According to research, patients who are treated by doctors of the same race have reported that their medical visits are more satisfying and engaging.

The Aetna Foundation has made this tour possible by awarding it 210,000 dollars.
