ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WACH) - An Orangeburg man has been arrested following a response to a call of shots fired in a residential area of Cope according to the Orangeburng County Sheirff's Office.

Shawn D. Stanback, 41,  was arrested on charges of trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and possession of a stolen weapon.

According to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, officers were called to the area of Carver School Road and Eaglewood Drive in Cope after a concerned citizen heard gunshots.

Officers checked residences less than a mile away and located a vehicle behind 115 Eaglewood Drive with a shattered windshield and a busted driver’s side window.

Officers entered the residence but were unsuccessful in locating a victim, what they did discover were narcotics and evidence of an altercation in the kitchen.

Stanback returned to the residence on foot while officers continued to investigate the shooting incident.

"Stanback made statements to officers that the narcotics belonged to him. Investigators obtained search warrants to seize the narcotics. During the execution of the search warrant, 4 handguns and a stolen AK-47 were located," said Ravenell. "This investigation revealed a tool criminals are using to hide their narcotics. A standard 20 ounce bottle of bottled water was used to hide narcotics in a compartment behind the label. Criminals are advancing their techniques to continue their criminal enterprise and it is our responsibility to know their next move too.”

Stanback’s bond hearing will be at 2:30 p.m. today
