COLUMBIA (WACH)--The Columbia Museum of Art is honoring the life of the late Matthew Perry.

An exhibition of photographs on the life of the civil rights leader who became South Carolina's first black federal judge are currently on display.

Perry died last year at age 89. The federal courthouse in Columbia bears his name.

During the 1960s, Perry represented hundreds of students jailed for civil rights demonstrations and also led the successful court battle for Harvey Gantt to integrate Clemson University in 1963.

In 1976, President Gerald Ford appointed him to the United States Military Court of Appeals.
