COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Thanks to Google students in one local school district will have the latest technology at their fingertips in the classroom.

Richland District Two is one of three school districts in the nation being recognized Thursday at the annual Florida Education Technology conference in Orlando.

This partnership with Google will bring thousands of Chromebooks to district classrooms and beyond.

By 2014, some 19,000 Richland District Two students in grades 3 through 12 and teachers will be using Chromebooks.

The device could be described as a cross between an iPad and a laptop.
