ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A new regional hospital for Bamberg and Barnwell counties will be built just outside the city of Denmark.

An Orangeburg newspaper reported the announcement was made at the Bamberg County Hospital Board meeting Tuesday night.

Rick Greene of Dobbs Equity Partners LLC told the board that an affiliate, the South Carolina Regional Health System, has acquired options to buy land and has plans to build the hospital within three and a half years.

Greene says the Regional Health System is taking ownership of the Bamberg and Barnwell county hospitals once they emerge from bankruptcy.

Greene says the new hospital will be a two-story, 25 bed facility that can be expanded to 49 beds. The hospital could add a third floor if the need arises.
