ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint is hosting a Claflin University senior at the State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported (http://bit.ly/yozfES ) that senior Keiwon Brown is attending as the Republican senator's invited guest when President Barack Obama delivers his third State of the Union address Tuesday.
The newspaper reported the Columbia native and information systems major was invited by the senator after one of DeMint's aides met the student at a leadership forum last week.
Brown is also a member of the South Carolina National Guard. He says he hopes to find out what the nation's leaders might be doing to help students to get into college and pay for it.
