SENECA, S.C. (AP) -- An 89-year-old minister has been sentenced to 10 days in jail for contempt of court because Seneca officials say he has failed to either repair or demolish a building he owns.

Seneca Municipal Judge Danny Singleton found the Rev. Efford Haynes in contempt of court Thursday.

Haynes collapsed as he was being led out of the court. He was treated at Oconee Medical Center and was booked into the jail Thursday afternoon.

Singleton also fined Haynes $500 after he could not show he had obtained permits to either repair or demolish the building.

Haynes says he is in discussion with two groups that might want to occupy the building and he's waiting to see if they will buy it or if he will have to renovate it.
