SPARTANBURG (WACH/AP) – In classic Texas fashion, Texas Governor Rick Perry has likened his decision to stay in the race for the White House after the Iowa caucuses to the last stand at the Alamo.

“We’re not quitting on America.   We’re not quitting on this race,” Perry said on Sunday to a crowd of nearly 300 at a packed burger restaurant in Spartanburg.  In Perry’s Alamo reference, he compared himself to the south Carolinians who rode to the Alamo to fight for the freedom of Texas even though they knew the fight would be lost.

Immediately after the disappointing loss in Iowa, Perry cancelled events that were scheduled in South Carolina last week, however a day later, he was announcing an ambitious schedule for the Palmetto State’s first in the south primary.

During his campaign stop, he took aim at Mitt Romney and the rest of the candidates he calls “Washington insiders.”

The Washington Post reports that Perry’s schedule in the state is packed, and according to campaign manager Katon Dawson, “the campaign will get back on track here.”
