MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- An attorney for state Rep. Thad Viers says the Myrtle Beach Republican charged with harassing his ex-girlfriend will not resign.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that attorney Dylan Goff says his client is looking forward to the legislative session that starts Tuesday.

Viers was arrested Friday after his ex-girlfriend told investigators he continued to call, text, email and show up at her home and work for more than five months after they broke up.

Viers announced after his arrest that he was ending his bid for a congressional seat and wouldn't run for his state House seat either in 2012. But Goff says Viers has no intention to step down early. The 33-year-old is in his fifth term.

Goff says Viers is very hurt by the accusations.
