CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A state lawmaker says the state is taking over plans to complete Interstate 526 in Charleston County.
Charleston Rep. Chip Limehouse says state officials are upset that county officials have been unable to decide how to complete the highway on James and Johns islands.
Limehouse is a member of the State Infrastructure Bank which provides funding for some highway projects.
The bank's board voted unanimously Thursday to shift the $420 million project from the county to the state transportation department. Limehouse says county officials and the transportation commission would have to approve the change.
Limehouse says he thinks the county council will have happy to get rid of responsibility for the project.
Council Chairman Teddie Pryor says he couldn't comment. Transportation Department spokesman Pete Poore also declined to comment.
