RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) - The Richland County Sheriff's Department has planned a memorial service for a K-9 deputy killed in the line of duty last Friday.

Investigators say Fargo was shot several times while chasing a robbery suspect early Friday morning. He died during surgery.

The service for Fargo is set for noon Thursday at the Richland County Sheriff's Department Headquarters on Two Notch Road.

Sheriff Leon Lott is encouraging law enforcement officers with K-9 partners to bring their dogs to the service.

Fargo was trained in narcotics detection, tracking, and criminal apprehension. Fargo joined the department in 2006.
