CORDOVA, S.C. (AP) -- Orangeburg County Sheriff's deputies have found more than 150 cats at an abandoned mobile home near Cordova.

Deputies say they were called by the owner of a mobile home park.

A neighbor, Joe Armstrong, says the odor was indescribable.

Armstrong says deputies and animal control workers needed five hours to round up the cats.

He says the home was filled with feces and the animals had torn up the walls, the carpet and the furniture.

Armstrong says nine dead cats were found in the home.

Sheriff's deputies say a couple had lived in the home until a couple of weeks ago. The investigation is continuing.

The cats are at Orangeburg County Animal Control but there is no word yet on whether they will be available for adoption.
