The law is known as S-20 is set to begin January 1st, 2012 unless federal courts decide to intervene.

This law will make South Carolina the first state to have an immigration police force.

Under this law, officials will also be allowed to ask people for their proper legal documentation allowing them to be in this country.

Among representatives there Wednesday was Lutheran minister Sandy Jones.

Columbia Hispanic ministry has a congregation of more than 250 immigrants.

"Too often in this discussion on immigration immigrants themselves remain invisible entirely removed from the discussion. This happens whenever immigration is defined as simply as a border security or economic debate rather than a humans right issue." Jones said.

The walk will begin at Zion Baptist church and continue to the steps of the State House.
