COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Teens incarcerated at The Department of Juvenile Justice are getting a chance to show off their carpentry skills.
Friday, DJJ is celebrating a project that allows youths at the agency's Columbia facility to help construct the frame for a Habitat for Humanity home.
The group will work on the frame at DJJ's Columbia facility. At a later date, some youths will be allowed to help with the home's construction at its final location.
The project is called The House that DJJ Built, and organizers say this is the first time the state's incarcerated youths have worked on something like this. State legislators, civic and faith-based leaders, community partners and volunteers are expected to attend the celebration.
