COLUMBIA (WACH)--The Richland County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting of a 19 year old man early Wednesday evening.

A spokesman for the RCSD says they received a call near 7:00 pm about a shooting at the Park Apartments on Longcreek Drive.  When deputies responded, they found no victim.  Soon after, the Lexington County Sheriff's Office reported to the RCSD that they had located the victim of the shooting.

According to information provided by the RCSD, the victim's friends were trying to drive him to the Lexington Medical Center and missed the exit, where they found him near I-26 and Augusta Road.  He was transported to Palmetto Richland Hospital, where he was treated for a shot in the "midsection."

A spokesman for the Richland County Sheriff's Department says that they are "aggressively trying to determine who shot him and why."
