COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The 45th Annual Governor's Carolighting has been canceled due to the threat of bad weather.
According to the City of Columbia, The Breakfast Optimist Club, the Governor’s Office and the city decided to call off the event because of forecasted thunderstorms.
“My family and I look forward to the Carolighting every Christmas and we’re very disappointed that the weather refused to cooperate this year,” Mayor Benjamin said. “I would like to thank all the volunteers for their hard work and tireless commitment to this wonderful event and for filling us all with the holiday spirit.”
Despite the cancelation, the tree at the Stat House won't stay dark. Governor Nikki Haley and Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin will hold a brief tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Monday on the north steps of the State House.
