MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WACH, AP) -- A 55-year-old woman was shot and wounded during a robbery attempt while she was shopping on Black Friday at a Myrtle Beach store.
Police say the 55-year-old was shot in the foot after two men demanded her purse shortly after 1 a.m. Friday near a Wal-Mart store.
Another woman told police the victim and a 25-year-old man were at their vehicle when she heard the victim scream.
A police report says the second woman went to her car and got a gun and fired several warning shots into the air and the suspects ran with the victim's purse.
The shooting victim was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. She had surgery on her foot late Friday afternoon.
Police are looking for the suspects.
Authorities say a similar situation played out on Hilton Head Island. Investigators say two Black Friday shoppers were robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of a Hilton Head Island shopping center.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that a man and woman were walking back to their car from Walmart at around 1:30 a.m. Friday when two men approached them with a gun.
Beaufort County Sheriff's Lt. Matthew Averill says the men made off with about $1,000 in cash and personal items worth $310.
No arrests have been made, and authorities are still investigating in that case as well.
These South Carolina cases are just two of many incidents reported across the country on Friday. There have been multiple reports of crime, fights and violence from several U.S. cities on the day known as the official start of the holiday shopping season.
