The South Carolina Law Enforcement Victim Advocate Association has named Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott the 2011 Chief of the Year.
COLUMBIA (WACH, AP) -- Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott has received a top award for his work helping crime victims.
Scott was recently named as the 2011 Chief of the Year by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Victim Advocate Association.
The Columbia Police Department has three victim advocates who help victims of crimes ranging from sexual assault to criminal domestic violence and harassment. The advocates provide emotional support and also can refer crime victims for additional help and counseling.
"This is a special award, because it's for victims' advocacy," said Chief Scott. "It's tremendous, but the honor doesn't go to me. It goes to the men and women that have been working so hard."
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Victim Advocate Association was established in 1990 to provide services to victims. It also provides a voice for legislative issues pertaining to victims' rights.
