LEXINGTON (WACH) -- Tuesday was election day in some parts of the Midlands. People headed to the polls to vote on issues ranging from mayoral and city council spots to Sunday alcohol sales.
In Irmo, voters elected Hardy King mayor after long-time mayor John Gibbons decided to retire. King beat out Kathy Condom, Barry Walker, and Suzanne Gooch. A special election will be held to fill King’s town council seat.
According to unofficial results from the Lexington County Election Commission, Joe Owens defeated incumbent Bobby Horton for the West Columbia’s mayor’s office.
The Town of Lexington hosted Municipal Elections on Tuesday including three at-large council seats and a local question on allowing the sale of beer and wine on Sunday.
Council seat voting went as followed:
Danny Frazier (778 votes)
Todd Shevchik (759 votes)
Steve MacDougall (635 votes)
Tripp Newsome (609 votes)
Constance Caractor Flemming (581 votes)
Richard Thompson (484 votes)
A referendum allowing the sale of beer and wine on Sunday in the town of Lexington was approved by voters.
Election results are set to be certified on Thursday.
