COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Ghosts, goblins and candy, that’s what comes to mind when we think of Halloween but the need for safety is also something we have to remember.

Law enforcement agencies want to remind you of some tips to be aware of when you hit the trick or treat trail.

Make sure costumes are bright and reflective consider adding reflective tape and don’t forget to take flashlights.

Authorities also suggest to only trick or treat in well-known neighborhoods and at homes that have a porch light on.

And the ultimate rule of thumb double check your child's candy before they dig in.
