COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The South Carolina Department of Transportation has been awarded $9.2 million in discretionary grant funding from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for various projects across the state.

The grant coming on the heels of last weeks annoucement where State Transportation Secretary Robert St. Onge, said he expects a second cash infusion from the Federal Highway Administration to help the agency add projects and pay contractors on time.

Seven counties including Kershaw County are set to benefit from the grant.

SCDOT officials say Kershaw will receive $2 million for the “Rehabilitating I-20 Kershaw County Project.”

The project will provide pavement rehabilitation, and repairs to embankment slope failures that are affecting the shoulder and travel lanes.
