ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) - The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said deputies and troopers were involved in a shooting near the Stop 'N Go convenience store in Pendleton Thursday night.
Officials said SLED was called to investigate the shooting that happened around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Clemson Boulevard and LaFrance Road.
Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said deputies and troopers from the South Carolina Highway Patrol fired on a man who was aiming a gun at them following a car accident.
Skipper said troopers wanted to question a driver who crashed his vehicle into a guard rail near Tri-County Technical College.
He said an off-duty officer witnessed the crash, and saw the driver leave the scene.
The off-duty officer reported the crash and followed the driver until he pulled into the Stop 'N Go and parked his vehicle.
Skipper said the off-duty left the scene and a state trooper arrived. While the trooper was questioning the driver, we're told he returned to his vehicle, presented a gun, and pointed it at the trooper.
Anderson County deputies also arrived on scene, and the officers from both agencies tried to persuade the man to put down the weapon.
Skipper said at some point, the officers felt the suspect was going to open fire, and both officers shot him.
The suspect was taken to AnMed hospital.
