ABBEVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Sheriff's deputies say a pack of at least a dozen dogs escaped from a home in Abbeville County, attacked and killed several penned farm animals including a horse.

A sheriff's report says no charges have been filed. Investigators say there appeared to be as many as 30 dogs on the property. They said the 65-year-old woman who owns the animals is in ill health.

She told officers she had fed the dogs, but agreed to have them and her surviving animals taken to a local rescue shelter.

Joe Mann of Big Oaks Rescue Farm in Greenwood says he found four dead goats and a dead horse, all partly eaten by the dogs. Mann says he says he doesn't blame the animals because they were obviously hungry.
