GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) - Gummy bears are a childhood favorite, but when they have been turned into an adults-only snack, it becomes extremely dangerous.
Teenagers are re-inventing an old trend, called alcohol gummies, but experts claim they are risky. Carol Reeves of the Greenville Family Partnership said, "It's not a new trend, it recycles, but unfortunately its extremely risky for the underaged."
Teens take an ordinary bag of gummy bears and drown them in alcohol. Then snack on them until they're gone. And Reeves said kids of all ages are trying it. "Kids who are having slumber parties, kids in high school, and even kids in middle school."
The internet is host to a slew of videos on how to make these gummies. The problem is, unlike a shot of alcohol, or a glass of wine, there's no telling how much alcohol each gummy absorbs.
Reeves warns parents to keep their eyes open because she says kids could be concocting these gummies in their rooms or in the bathroom and some parents would never know.
