IRMO (WACH) -- Gearing up for the State Fall Special Olympic Games.
That’s what several athletes did Thursday in Irmo.
One hundred of them, getting their preliminary competitions for fall games out of the way at Seven Oaks Park.
The athletes had to practice for eight weeks with a certified Special Olympic coach to get ready for the state fall games in two weeks.
Organizers say these athletes are ready and willing to be all that they can be.
“I think people are always surprised that Special Olympics South Carolina has 21,422 athletes that train and compete. Right here in the Midlands we have about 2,000 athletes that are training year around in different sports we are keeping people busy,” says Sue Maner, Special Olympics South Carolina.
The state fall games will be held in Greenville from October 21 - 23.
