COLUMBIA (WACH)--The Columbia Mayor's annual Isabel Law breast cancer breakfast took place Friday morning to help breast cancer patients.
South Carolina ranks 25th in the nation for estimated deaths from breast cancer.
According to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, breast cancer is currently the leading cancer diagnosed among US women.
Mayor Steve Benjamin, along with city officials and local celebrities served hot eggs, bacon, grits, pancakes etc outside of city hall from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m.
"Last year, the people of Columbia showed up in full force and helped us raise nearly $5,000 for Bosom Buddies," said Mayor Steve Benjamin.
All proceeds benefit the Bosom Buddies, a non-profit organization that assists women who are in need of mastectomy camisoles or have other post-surgical needs.
