COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Below is a list of 9/11 events taking place across the Midlands Sunday.
1. The First Responders Remembrance Memorial Ceremony
After a year of planning and fund raising, the First Responders Memorial project announces the unveiling ceremony on September 11th, 2011 at 3:00PM at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center 1101 Lincoln Street.
The ceremony will include remarks by Governor Nikki Haley, flyovers by US Military F-16s, J Hawks, and Sheriff’s Department aircraft, a 21 gun salute, honor guard made up of First Responders from the Military, police, fire, and EMS, and special presentation to the family members of the 47 First Responders from the Midlands who have given their lives in service since 9/11/2001.
The Memorial will include two 25 foot granite towers and a pair of beams from the World Trade Center.
It will also bear the names of the 47 First Responders it honors.
Project leaders are still seeking the remaining $22,000 needed to complete the project, and are accepting donations.
2. The Midlands 9/11 Remembrance Concert
Sunday, September 11th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Columbia, SC
Ten years ago, while our entire nation was still gripped by panic and fear, the South Carolina Philharmonic stepped forward to provide an opportunity for all of us to come together, share our collected grief, and begin the healing process with a free concert in Finlay Park.
This Sunday, as we look back to that moment in time, the SC Philharmonic has offered itself again will mark this historic occasion The Midlands 9/11 Rememberance Concert.
The event, free to the public, will take place in Finlay Park on Sunday, September 11th and will begin at 7:00.
Free parking for attendees will be located in the Taylor Street Garage at the corner of Taylor and Assembly streets.
All personnel from first-response agencies across the Midlands are invited as honored guests.
3. Remembering September 11, 2001

6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary
The Shandon Choirs and Orchestra will present the cantata Memorial by Rene Clausen.
Composed a year after 9.11.01, this highly dramatic, introspective and moving musical composition depicts the catastrophic chain of events, and offers healing and hope for the future.
Columbia’s dedicated firefighters and police will be recognized.
