SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Summerville man, charged with DUI after a collision with a deputy's cruiser, has bonded out of jail.
Investigators with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said 30-year-old John P. Lewis was driving westbound on Ladson Road early Monday morning when he made an illegal u-turn near Limehouse Drive. At the same time, a Dorchester County deputy was traveling eastbound. The two vehicles collided.
The airbags deployed in the deputies' vehicle and it sustained major damage, about $35,000 worth. The deputy, Chris Limehouse, had minor injuries and was checked in and out of the hospital.
Dorchester County Sheriff's Major John Garrison says he should be back to work on Friday. We're told the deputy was responding to a non-emergency call and did not have his lights or his siren activated.
Both the deputy and a passenger in Lewis' car were taken to the hospital.
Beres said everyone involved were wearing seatbelts.
