LEXINGTON COUNTY (WACH) -- A test of the Lexington County Detention Center's alarm siren will take place Tuesday morning and officials want to warn residents it is only a drill.

The sheriff's department says the alarm will be sounded at 8:45 a.m. on September 6 at the James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex on Gibson Road in Lexington.

In emergency situations, the siren is used to alert residents of an inmate escape.

Officials want to remind nearby citizens that this is only a test that must be conducted periodically to make sure the system is working properly.
