PELION (WACH) -- A man is dead after being hit by an SUV early Saturday morning.

Coroner Harry Harman says 46 year old John P. Snuffer of Swansea was walking northbound on Highway 178, near Washboard Road when he was hit by a Chevrolet Envoy driven by Wayne Liva of St. Matthews.

Authorities say the accident happened approximately at 1:30am.

Officials say Snuffer was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple body trauma.

The Lexington County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the accident.
