(AP) -- COLUMBIA (WACH, AP) -- U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson remains in the hospital because of an extended fever, but doctors say he'll recover completely.

Chief of staff Eric Dell said Thursday that the 64-year-old Republican is being treated for signs and symptoms of a chronic viral-type infection at Lexington Medical Center.

Wilson's office said last week that he was taking antibiotics to treat symptoms of Lyme Disease after contracting an illness while working in his yard.

Dell says the exact infectious agent has not yet been defined, but there is no evidence that Wilson is suffering from any serious complications. He did not say when Wilson was admitted.

Wilson canceled a planned tour of his district earlier this week because of his illness.
