EASTOVER (WACH) -- Residents in Richland County may hear increased air traffic and noice coming from the skies early next week, but officials say there's no reason to be alarmed.
McEntire Joint National Guard Base leaders warn people that they are hosting late-night and early-morning military exercises August 14 through 17. Training may stretch as far as Camden in Kershaw County.
The base is hosting soldiers from Fort Benning's 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and Army and Air Force special operations units from Florida and Kentucky.
Live training ammunition and low flying aircraft will be used. Officials say this is necessary to ensure a realistic experience.
“We are proud to be one of the few military installations with the ability to host such important training for our Army and active-duty Air Force colleagues," says Brigadier General Scott Williams, commander for McEntire’s 169th Fighter Wing. "We also are extremely sensitive to the concerns of our neighbors and have taken every measure to reduce the amount of noise generated overnight. We appreciate the understanding and support of the surrounding community during the exercise.”
If you have any questions about the training, you can call 706-545-4260 or 706-604-5114.
