LAURENS, SC (FOX Carolina) - Laurens County Deputies said on Tuesday that a man stabbed his sister and that a family friend shot him when he would not stop the attack.

Deputies said the brother and sister, both in their 40s, got into an argument at a home on Highway 72 East. Investigators said the brother pulled out a knife and stabbed his sister in the throat and face.

According to deputies, a family friend pulled out a gun and told the woman's brother to stop the attack.  Officers say the brother then started to attack that family friend, who they say then shot the brother in the chest.

Deputies say the argument began at the siblings' father's house on Highway 72 in Clinton Tuesday afternoon. A family witness told us their father died Monday night from cancer. She says the argument started over his property and then the brother lost it.

The brother and sister were both airlifted to local hospitals. The brother is in serious condition at Spartanburg Regional and his sister is in stable condition at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
