Columbia (WACH)—With an estimated 25 percent increase in back to school supplies, and South Carolina unemployment still among the highest in the country, the South Carolina National Guard and Kiss 103.1 once again joins forces with national radio host Tom Joyner for the Annual Back To School and Career Job fair at the Fair Grounds.
Visitors to the even will be given a bag, full of school supplies, and as they walk through approximately 75 vendors, who are offering career opportunities, information about college and vocational training, and free immunizations and screenings.
Kiss 103.1 Station Manager Jacque Freeman says the event is aimed at families who struggle with the costs getting children prepared for the school year with supplies, and providing potential career opportunities with many local businesses that are hiring in the Midlands.
Dominique from the Tom Joyner Morning Show is broadcasting nationwide from the event before she performs at the Comedy House over the weekend. “Education is so important to Tom and the show, and we love the opportunity to come out and see the people of Columbia,” she said.
The event is free to the public, and runs until 2:00 pm at the Cantey Building at the State Fair Grounds.
