COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Another summer day, another heat advisory is in effect for much of South Carolina.
Even though we've had a few days in the 80s since June 1st, it seems like the Midlands has experienced one long heat wave since the start of meteorological summer. The next few days will be no different.
The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for the Midlands from 11am to 8pm Friday. A Heat Advisory means that feels like temperatures will be at or above 105 degrees.
There is a chance of afternoon thunderstorms, especially in the Midlands and northern coast.
Don't let the chance of clouds and storms fool you, higher humidity levels will make up for a few degree drop in the actual temperature. 'Feels like temperatures' will be above 105 degrees.
The hot weather isn't going away any time soon. Forecasters predict highs in the 90s across the state for the next seven days.
Heat Index values aren't the only numbers the SkyWACH Weather Team is recording. The last time Columbia saw a high temperature in the 80s was July 26th. Since July 12th, the Midlands recorded 12 days in the triple digits. The hottest days were July 22nd and 23rd with high temperatures of 104 degrees.
The summer has been dominated by highly amplified ridge patterns which have left the southeast open to a hotter, muggier scenerio. Given, this overall trend, more heat and humidity will continue for the Midlands.
