Columbia (WACH) — A dog that is believed to have been bait in a dog fighting ring will be the guest of honor at a weekend fundraiser planned by Pets, Inc.
Cowboy will be making a special apperance on WACH Fox Good Day on Friday ahead of this weekend's event.
On July 11, WACH Fox reported the story of Cowboy, who was brought to the shelter with bites and broken teeth. Officials at Pets, Inc said that Cowboy came from the Swansea area, where they believe a lot of dog fighting training occurs.
The event for Cowboy, who has since been adopted, is to help raise money for his medial bills and raise awareness about illegal dog fighting. The “Rally for Cowboy” is scheduled for August 6, and will include free pet identification registration, discounts on several services including vaccines, heartworm tests and neuters. Additionally, Lexington Young Professionals will be conducting a doggie wash to help raise money.
The HSPCA offers a reward of $5,000 for anyone with information that leads to a conviction for dog fighting.
