COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Columbia's police force is putting on a 5K race to show that Columbia is a safe place to live.

Chief Randy Scott says the Friday evening Capital City Safe 5K Run/Walk is also being sponsored by the Police Municipal Foundation and Strictly Running.

The event starts on Main Street and winds south to the Statehouse and ends at the Columbia Museum of Art. The course includes post-race refreshments, water stops and water misting stations.

All proceeds benefit the police department's training community involvement and crime prevention.
