COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Social Media has, without a doubt, become more than a way to update when we brush our teeth and tie our shoes.  With an estimated 650 million facebook users and another 175 million tweeters, the integration of social media into life is undeniable. 

Look at any product on TV…cars to cookies, and you will be given the opportunity to follow them.  The instant ability to send 140 characters of information instantly to anyone who has decided to follow you gives the power of mass broadcasting to teenagers across .

Even has embraced the power of social media, holding Twitter meetings where anyone could have direct contact with the President.

Products, politics, and friend recommendations are one thing, but is there a line where social media impacts things like murder trials?

Casey Anthony, “Tot Mom,” as she has become known, was recently found not guilty in .  Which side of the attorney table is to give credit or blame will be analyzed for some time to come, but one thing is for certain: social media defiantly played a significant role in the defense teams arguments and approach. 

Social media consultants analyzed all the blogs, tweets, and postings, on everything from what Casey Anthony wore and expressions to the way attorneys asked questions and witnesses answered. 

When viewers posted how much they didn’t like George Casey, Jose Baez spent a little extra time painting him as a villain.  Was Cindy Anthony’s testimony an attempt to mislead the jury or a mom protecting her daughter?  The tweeters felt it was the latter, so Beaz’s tactic was to go easy on her during closing arguments.
