CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- It's the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Manassas, also known as the Battle of Bull Run, and a lecture in Charleston focuses on the role of South Carolinians in that fight.
The Thursday lecture is by historian Michael Coker at Charleston's Powder Magazine.
South Carolinians played a key role in the battle in Virginia. It was Brigadier Gen. Barnard Elliott Bee Jr., a South Carolinian, who is credited with using the term "stone wall" to refer to the troops of Brig. Gen. Thomas Jackson, giving rise to Jackson's nickname.
Bee died during the battle.
Some Union prisoners captured during the battle were later brought to Charleston.
A re-enactment of the battle is planned this weekend in Virginia.
