GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) -- Several arrests have been made at Mr. Flap's Pawn Shop in an attempt to put a stop to what investigators describe as a shoplifting ring.
Berkeley County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dan Moon said officials with multiple law enforcement agencies converged on the scene of the investigation at around noon on Wednesday.
Since, Moon said several arrests have been made at Mr. Flap's Pawn Shop in an attempt to put a stop to what he described as a shoplifting ring.
"We have been investigating this since the first part of January," Moon said.
Investigators believe pawn shop operators provided people with a list of items to shoplift from stores across the nation -- items investigators say were later brought back and sold at Mr. Flap's or on Ebay.
"We believe that the pawn shop operators were directly involved with this," Moon said. "In fact, we are arresting a relative of the owner."
Moon said that relative is the daughter of the owner.
"We've uncovered an awful lot of items," Moon said. "A big part of that has been a discovery of over $100,000 in pet supplies."
Moon said investigating agencies could be on the scene until late in the day.
"They are still boxing up stuff out here," he said. "It is going to take a good while."
In addition to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, the Goose Creek Police Department, Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, Mount Pleasant Police Department and SLED are involved in the investigation.
