COLUMBIA (WACH) -- For more than 60 years, Casey’s Fireworks in Columbia has been providing inexpensive fun during the holidays.
“I had a guy come in today who does odd jobs and has been saving money the whole year to have a Fourth of July party,” according to President John Casey of Casey’s Fireworks.
Sales usually soar during the Fourth of July, and this year demand is booming.
John adds consumers are buying between 20 to 30 percent more fireworks than in previous years.
To help prevent shoppers' experience from fizzling, John enlisted the help of his family and close neighbors to assist in Monday’s last-minute rush.
“Of course he returns the favor by shooting fireworks in the neighborhood,” says Richard Smoke, who has worked at the family-run shop for the past three July Fourth holidays.
Working for free is not a bad deal for someone who loves fireworks.
“The sound and the color,” says Richard, “I find all that appealing.”
Fireworks also proving to be appealing to women. Casey’s Fireworks sold more products to female customers during the weekend than ever before.
“I guess the men are saying, ‘okay you go get them and I will go cook the barbeque,’ so it's interesting to see that,” John says.
Regardless of who is buying, John hopes all of his customers were able celebrate America's big 235th birthday in an even bigger way.
