IRMO, S.C. (AP) -- Officials at a boating club are urging boaters to stay safe on Lake Murray during this holiday weekend.

The Lake Murray Boat Club is handing out glow sticks to anyone planning to be on the lake this July Fourth.

Lake Murray's annual fireworks show attracts boaters from all around the area, some of whom may not spend much time on the water at night. Organizers say they hope the glow sticks will help those boaters stay safe and not run into each other.

The red, green and white glow sticks are part of a safety kit and are meant to be used as back up lighting in case a boat's lights aren't working.
