FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) -- The Army is opening Fort Jackson to the public for an evening fireworks display, cannon salute and band concert.

Army spokesman Pat Jones says Friday's Independence celebration begins at 8 p.m. on the parade field, which has parking and grandstand seats. Jones says guests may bring lawn chairs and blankets for open seating. Food and drink concessions are available. Games, crafts and rides are available for small children.

Jones advises that pets, grills, personal fireworks and alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

All drivers must possess a valid state or government issued identification, proof of vehicle insurance and a valid registration.

Motorcycle riders must wear an approved helmet, full-fingered gloves, over the ankle boots and a reflective vest.
