NORTH MYRTLE BEACH (WPDE) -- Horry County police released more details Thursday morning about the North Carolina man they say carjacked two drivers, caused two crashes, and tried to jump a river in the car.
They say around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, a caller in North Myrtle Beach reported a driver who might have a gun involved in a carjacking.
Police found the car at the end of Star Bluff Drive in the Wampee community near the IGA on Highway 90.
While responding, police say they were given updates from dispatch that Gregory Allen Spry, 44, had originally carjacked a driver at gunpoint after colliding with the vehicle he was driving. They say he then collided with another vehicle on Star Bluff and carjacked another driver.
Police say Spry drove that vehicle into the Waccamaw River at a high rate of speed, almost clearing the river and landing on the opposite side.
A citizen pulled Spry out of the vehicle. Police say he was severely injured and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Once released, Spry will be taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
