GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- The chairman and president of Michelin North America Inc. has announced his plans to retire.

Michelin said Tuesday that Dick Wilkerson would step down from those roles at the end of the year.

Wilkerson was named chairman and president of Michelin's Greenville-based North American operations in August 2008. He has also served as the chairman of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

The company says Michelin Truck Tires worldwide president Pete Selleck will return to South Carolina from Michelin's global headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand, France, to succeed Wilkerson. Selleck previously served as chief operating officer of Michelin Americas Small Tires.

Michelin North America has more than 21,400 employees and operates 18 major manufacturing plants in 16 locations.
