COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A South Carolina soldier has died in Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, 33-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Alvin A. Boatwright from Lodge died Saturday in Uruzgan province after the vehicle he was in rolled-over. Sgt. Boatwright was part of the 4th Battalion, 70th Armor Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat team based in Baumholder, Germany.
Also killed in the roll-over were 37-year-old Sgt. Edward F. Dixon of Whitman Air Force Base, Missouri; 28-year-old Sgt. Alan L. Snyder of Worcester, Massachusetts; and 21-year-old Spc. Tyler R. Kreinz of Beloit, Wis.
More than 1,600 U.S. servicemembers have now died in Afghanistan, according to the website icasualties.org that tracks Dept. of Defense casualty figures. More than 175 Americans have died in Afghanistan so far this year.
