COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has cautioned legislators not to hold her government restructuring legislation hostage to other bills.
Haley said Tuesday she is anxious to see what happens in the Legislature as it decides whether to take up a bill that would move much of the state's bureaucracy under her control in a new cabinet agency.
Legislators are back in Columbia for a wrap-up session and can't take up the bill without passing a special law. It requires a two-thirds vote and some Senators say they won't approve the measure unless the House agrees to take up a bill allowing an 11-day early voting period.
Haley called it a "dangerous thing" when legislators hold what she called good legislation hostage to try to pass another bill.
