RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) -- Richland County officials have arrested a suspect who they say severely injured a one-year-old girl.

Deputies were called to the hospital Sunday to investigate a possible child abuse case involving 32-year-old Antwan Gaddist.

Investigators say the one-year-old victim was not breathing and had extensive bruises to her body and face when she arrived at the hospital.

Sheriff Leon Lott says the victim's mother says she was at work and Gaddist, her boyfriend, was taking care of the child.

Gaddist turned himself in Tuesday and is being held at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
